Freeform Friday

Holy weekend. After a non-stop week of wrapping up the semester, I'm ready to chill with the fam, attend a postcard party with some fantastically nasty women, get dinner out with friends, have bunch in with more friends, and try to find a new normal where I somehow read enough news to stay informed but avoid yelling "What the fuuuuuuck?!?" at the top of my lungs every day. So far I'm having moderate success.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, and I hope you enjoy clicking through my favorite links from the past week.

A great look at the power of color in film.

I picked up a new tile this week, and it has me wanting this and this and this.

Badlands? More like bad ass.

I love dreaming of my next trip with the help of these city guides.

On that note, travel tips for your next trip.

Thank you, internet!

Protest art to get you thinking.

This machine kills fascists.

In other dystopian news, 1984 is flying off shelfs.

I'm not usually a fan of makeovers, but this one works for some snarky reason.

When I dream, this is what it looks like.

Freeform Friday

After commiserating with coworkers and students all day, this nasty woman is ready to hit the street tomorrow at the Ann Arbor Women's March. I'm excited to go with a great group of friends, and I'm looking forward to making this the first step in a strong resistance over the next four years.

Here are some links I've been using in an effort to not lose my shit over the news that has been filtering in over the last couple of days. I hope they also provide you a pleasant distraction.

Celebrate your freedom. Read this!

Books that every woman (and man!) should read.

Mad Men fans, take note.

rediscovered Mark Twain fairy tale? Yes, please.

Another beautiful supercut of Wes Anderon's windows and doll house shots.

Did you know this impressive feat about the Women's March on Washington?

Obama out.

The bear memes are helping laugh through the tears (and indigestion). This is a favorite so far.

Freeform Friday

Hello three day weekend! We're happily getting out of town for the holiday with, wait for it, adults only! My wonderful mother is staying with our kids, and we're headed Up North for some skiing and relaxing with friends. I hope you have fun plans for the weekend, and I hope you enjoy clicking through my favorite links from the past week.

I've been enjoying reading up on Hemingway recently and am fascinated by his first two marriages.

I could definitely eat this.

Behold the power of travel literature.

Toni Morrison always had a way with words.

Fredrick is really quite amazing, and this animated video is required viewing for littles and bigs.

Excited to read this great historical fiction for book club.

World building in Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox.

In case you missed Meryl's incredible speech.

And of course this wonderful speech that got me all teary.

Did you know that wolves could do this?

Check out this amazing pattern in a frozen river.

Best Brunch for a Crowd

Taking a cue from a favorite local breakfast spot, I made this tasty brunch when we had some friends over last weekend.

I put together the best fresh baked goods I could find, in this case savory and sweet bagels, plain and chocolate croissants, ham and cheese stuffed soft pretzels, and cinnamon rolls. To accompany the pastries are pots of butter, jam, and cream cheese.

On the last tray I piled stuffed grape leaves, hard boiled eggs, sliced cucumbers, and feta along with a bowl of mixed olives.

It has something to please guests of all ages, requires barely any cooking, and is served at room temperature.

Freeform Friday

Happy 2017! We rang in the New Year in the sunny Florida Keys, and we had a fantastic time playing in the pool, exploring new places, and visiting the home of a favorite author. This was our second year in a row traveling to the Keys, and I'm lovin' our new travel tradition. While coming back to cold temps is never easy, I am looking forward to lunching with new friends tomorrow and seeing my favorite ladies at book club on Sunday.

I hope you've enjoyed your holiday break and gotten plenty of rest, and I hope you enjoy clicking through my favorite links from the past week.

Some hilarious resolutions to consider.

A fun collection of Easter eggs from Pixar films (that has great transitions!).

A simple, delicious looking pasta recipe.

Good news for those of us who don't like to eat in the morning.

More evidence for why Betty White is cooler than most people.

Love this new black dress I picked up.

This made me laugh.

My husband just got a bunch of hard to find vintage records, so we've been jamming all day.

I finally found the perfect feminist t-shirt.

I can't get enough of these smart, funny everyday bravery pins.
